Author's POV-
The air seemed to hold its breath, charged with anticipation. Reyansh leaned in, his gaze unwavering. "Anything?" he repeated, his voice low.
Her heart fluttered. She hadn't expected this turn of events, but she was intrigued. "Yes," she whispered. "Within reason, of course."
He chuckled, a warm sound that sent shivers down her spine. "You tell me what you want to do? Because you going to the trip is fixed and you can't help it.", his lips curved slightly when he looked at her face who was in a very deep thought with frowned eyebrows now. But the next thing she said made him scrunch his nose with a small pout but he quickly composed his posture.
"I can write your assignments or help with any work you need. It's a win-win, right?"
Win-win? More like snooze-snooze. His dirty thoughts scurried away like cockroaches when the lights came on. His mood plummeted faster than a lead balloon.
He leaned back against the tree, staring at her. "Assignments?" he repeated, his voice flat.
She nodded, her smile unwavering. "Exactly! I'm a pro at writing the whole assignment in one day and yeah, I can complete yours before the trip too."
His soul groaned. His dreams of intrigue and romance sank like the Titanic. He should not have asked her instead of just commanding.
But wait! What he would have asked her to do? his conscience asked. Umm, maybe kis- or se- umm no I can't demand this straight Wtffff. Kaisi jagah pe rehte ho ye bhi dhyaan rakho Reyansh!!!!
Fair enough, but he was hoping for something more... leave it.
"Assignments," he muttered, shaking his head. She grinned, her eyes sparkling.
"Alright, take these then."
He hesitated, then reached into his bag. He pulled out a stack of papers. "Here," he said, handing them over.
She scanned the pages. "Okay, that's a lot of work but I'll manage anyway."
He watched as she flipped through the pages, a mixture of curiosity and frustration swirling inside him. He had been hoping for something much more interesting than this, and her eagerness to help with his assignments was a bit of a letdown.
He couldn't help but feel a twinge of irritation at the situation, but he tried his best to hide it with a neutral expression.
"Yeah, it's a lot," he said, forcing a casual tone. "But if you're sure you can handle it...?"
She looked up at him, her smile still unwavering. "Of course I can. I told you, I'm a pro at this."
Reyansh tried not to let his irritation show on his face. A pro at writing assignments, huh? Not exactly the kind of pro he was hoping for. He leaned back studying her face.
Her eyes darted back to the papers, skimming the pages with ease. It was clear that she was confident in her ability to get the work done. And she looked damn good while doing it, Reyansh thought, taking in the way her hair framed her face and the slight tilt of her chin. He shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts.
"Okay then I should take my leave now!! I would definitely complete this before the trip." she said with a smile.
He hummed in response with a slight smile. He couldn't help but feel like he had missed an opportunity, although he wasn't quite sure what he had missed...but what he would ask her maybe for lunch atleast.
Pratiksha turned her heels taking the notes in her hands huffing. This looks hot in books but traumatizing in real life, she thought. She knew where that conversation was going. Her heartbeat slowed down after sometime.
........................
The moonlight spilled through the window, casting a silvery glow across Pratiksha's room. She sat at her desk, damp hair clinging to her shoulders after a warm shower. College work awaited her-notes, assignments, deadlines but her mind kept drifting back to Him.
His name stared up at her from the page. She'd promised to help him, and here she was. But it wasn't the work that held her attention; it was the memory of their encounter all the time, first to recent. Something has changed, maybe everything.
Her pen danced across the page, but her thoughts were elsewhere. She remembered his half-smile, the way he'd leaned in, their pact. It was absurd, really-writing assignments for 10,000rs repayment-but it made her heart flutter like a trapped butterfly.
What's wrong? Everything.
That's the only answer her mind can give to her.
The night held its secrets. And suddenly the thought of the dream lingered and she smiled..No... She is blushing, damn it, like a character from a cheesy romance novel.
Maybe it was the moon's fault, or perhaps her?
She started writing the assignment.
But suddenly a thought came in her mind 'How I'm gonna tell my family about the trip?' Shittt. Eventually, just this assignment isn't enough for the amount. Ohh, I've to tell this to dadu first of all. She sighed.
Meanwhile, someone else wore a wild grin, burying his face in a pillow, replaying their conversations. Reyansh, unsure how he'd gained the confidence to talk to the only girl not part of his family, reveled in the magic of moonlit moments.
His heart thudded against the fabric. He'd never been this vulnerable, this open.
